I am so into the new urban music right now. I'm freaking out how good it is. I can’t stop listening to it. I think rock needs a boost like this. Except for a few cool bands like the vines and strokes and hives rock mostly sucks. Its not growing or moving at all. even the bands I just mentioned—and these are some of the good ones—aren't doing anything fresh. Its just the same old refried beans, and yea that’s half the appeal, the simplicity of going back to the roots, but like Bas just said about white stripes, ‘yea it’s a cool song but after a minute you have to fast forward because its so fucking boring.’ Totally. Hey man, I appreciate it but I can’t listen to it. rock is just too boring. I love it but I only like it when it transcends its genre, like Radiohead—not this new album, but everything up until this point, sometimes oasis can do this. Really catchy stuff. mercury rev has a nice fresh approach but they stick with it the whole album. I hate that. Boring. Coldplay writes great melodies of course, but that isn't rock is it... its Britpop. All the cheesy alterna-rock bands on MTV and the radio blow so bad. They’re all either trying to be green day or nirvana or limp bizcit. They are ruining the entire rock genre for thinking cool people. nothing fresh. The new urban music explosion that is happening now is because the music they are making is so fucking fresh and exciting. its like busting out of the speakers. Songs like crazy in love and work it and Bonnie and Clyde and anything by Eminem or Nelly. Forget about it. and Janet’s last album?! that was the best produced album of that year. That was a few years ago, but it still sounds amazing. PHAT. Jumps out of the speakers. I don't think we did it with sleep with you, but we tried. I'm already bored with it. But this new new album we are working on now is freaking. We are doing it. and we’re doing nothing but just making standard pop-rock. But it sounds so soulful and fresh. Like from another world. That whole destiny’s child sound that came out a few years ago. forget about it.
Last screening: La vita e bella. Again. I love the first half of this movie. I think it’s the most romantic movie ever made. and now I can understand it a lot more. this movie, among other things, was what prompted me to go to Italy in the first place. this guy is classic. What a beautiful piece of work.
