All these rules that they have in the music biz. I'll tell you a secret. I have had a lot of other companies in my life, in a few other industries. Just always been good at business since I was in my teens. but I've always been a singer and songwriter and in bands and been releasing albums for years and years and years and I'll tell you, from the outside looking in, no wonder everyone in the music biz is always talking about "how hard it is..." because the way that its currently set up, boy oh boy, it is hard. They're all making it hard on each other. For no real reason. All these rules. In regular business, its just balls to the wall, you just go for it, no rules, no big "majors" to contend with, or any of that, you just kick ass and start making money. its awesome. But in the music biz, man, it is an industry filled with rules and laws and all this fear. Everyone always talking about the majors. And everyone thinking they can’t do it on their own. can’t do anything on their own. a lot of people out there crying and complaining, instead of just treating it like any other biz and just making it happen.
"When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty. I
think only how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if
the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong."
--Buckminster Fuller
Last screening: biography of max Ernst, Dadaism, surrealism, Peggy Guggenheim, great painter. Inspiring. His work got better as he got older. Music should be more like painting. Where the artist doesn’t necessarily lose it like most singers and songwriters do. but get better with age like many painters do.
