Think> what if rather than playing the critic we looked for what we got out or could get out of everything. books and movies and music. I am such the critic and today just decided that rather than judging things based on what I think of them in the bigger picture like this is good this was bad I instead just reflected on and commented on what I did get out of it. after all, if one is perceptive and aware enough one can get a few things out of almost everything. (well almost almost everything. not including that movie anchorman. I didn't get more than ten minutes through that one before I broke the DVD in two and sent it back to netflix.) But a good idea though, and one I will attempt to practice from this point forward in my life to see how it serves.

Last screening: AI. Disturbing film. at first problematic due to the mom and dad characters just not being good enough in a way that I cannot put my finger on, but as it moves it gets better. The mom is whiny and annoying, hard to empathize with, and the dad is like cardboard, plastic, they didn't write him well enough, you cannot relate to him at all. but the boy, wow, good stuff. the story of the boy and the bear tugs at your heart. you feel as if it could be an allegory for real life. this is a great story. We could explore the ideas in it a lot more. its like a modern day fairy tale. This is one of his greatest achievements as a filmmaker.
