Moved into a new office today. Sharing space with a bunch of other people. Just a place to go to sit and work everyday rather than my old office. Sitting in this huge office space with like fifty other people---everyone doing their own thing. Strange. I told the guy I would try it for a few days. I can tell its not my thing. My current office, the one I've had for the last few years, is over a thousand square feet. I have a driving range and a basketball hoop in there. I can listen to music really loudly while I work. So coming into this kind of environment is a huge change. But anything just to keep making progress towards a complete transition. I figure I will only need an office for a few months so it has been hard trying to find some place that will lease for less than a year. But now I am dead set on moving to new York this year and not waiting any longer. So I just need a place to come everyday and work on promoting the new album and plan the move to NYC. I'm not good at working from home. Never have been. Makes me feel weird.

At dinner tonight Bas says, “God I have been witness to such monstrosities by the women the last few years since I have been here."

“What do you mean?”
“Just the girls down here. They are so different. They are like nothing else around America. They are just so harsh. So ghetto.”

“I think what you mean is that they’re fucking sluts man,” I say.
“Exactly. And that's the way we like em,” says Ferret.

“I just can’t believe the things that come out of their mouths or the things they do. And I think its rubbed off on us. I think we’re all monsters now.”
“Speak for yourself man,” I say. “I'm still the same. Last night the Artisan was telling me I reminded her about manners and being a decent human being in a world full of scum. Face it man. It’s not just Miami. It’s the whole fucking country. Its going down,” I say. “Look at this shit with Madonna and that little tramp of the month... what's her name.”
“Britney.”

Had dinner with the crazy Spaniard tonight. First really intellectual conversation since I returned to America. Not that intellectual is what you’re always looking for in conversation. Sometimes its good to just to talk of course. Every group you hang with offers you something different. But it was very nice. Lots of wine and sushi and talk of world affairs, matters of the heart, politics, etc etc.

She spent her summer in Spain and India. We both just got back. We shared horror stories of how depressed we found ourselves returning to Miami. She for over a week. Me, I got over it pretty quickly, and now I am just a walking living breathing depressed person. A cultured person will die here. A slow painful agonizing death. Like the frog in water that slowly comes to a boil. Where you are never quite sure what is wrong with you. You just know that you ‘feel weird’ and that you are unhappy.

I am actually sick today. Legs hurt. Stuffed up. I think from the news about Cleo. Of course I have assured myself that I am moving soon. I found out that Cleo is moving back to Boca Raton. After I threw up a few times, I realized that there truly is no reason now for me to stay here. But I have so many good friends here and the boys in the band who I love dearly. And she and I haven't hung out in more than a year. We talk on the phone. Now we just don't see each other. We avoid each other. It is a particular situation I am in. Ferret wants his money. Has no idea why I even speak with Cleo. Thinks I should do the right thing. Do whatever it takes. I looked him in eye. ‘Dude. I gotta do what I gotta do. You ever been in love man?’ I ask. ‘Yea once. And look what fucking happened! That fucking bitch broke my heart!’ he screamed. He got his heart broken once; the only time he ever fell in love with a girl. ‘So get over it! Fuck love!’ classic Ferret. Anyone else would be shocked sometimes by the way he speaks to you. But I am used to it. I know in his heart he is one of the truest-blue people I have ever known.

Another dinner tonight with many friends. About twenty of us around a big table. Sharing and laughing, joking and playing. We started doing this ancient Russian tradition of Tamadah. Where each of us goes around the table and wishes a blessing on everyone else at the table for the year ahead. Very beautiful and heart warming.
An observation I noticed at all the dinners we had at various places around the city. There was a time many years ago when a big group of us would go out during a course like this one and the people would look at us very funny, hotel and restaurant staff etc. They didn't know what to think. Who are all these crazy people laughing and smiling all the time? they say they’re from some self evolvement course they're all taking. Probably a cult. they didn't know what to think. I think there was a lot of projection about that type of thing in days gone by. This year though I noticed how open and curious people were. The attitude was more like ‘hey what the hell are you guys on? And how can I get some of that?’ people have opened up now to expanding and improving themselves. I think maybe because of all the sorrow and confusion around the world, especially in the states, there has been a shift towards people searching for real enlightenment rather than mere dogma or rhetoric or status. In the roaring nineties, when Avatar started and developed, everyone was so focused on all the money being made all over America. There were more billionaires made in those ten years in America than anywhere else in the world at any other time in human history. So the question from people was always, ‘is it like a success course? Can it help me make more money?’ and now that has shifted to something more like, ‘self evolvement course? Can it help me be more happy?’
I feel like I have grown so much in the last two weeks. Like I am not even the same person as I was when I arrived here. I feel so clean and clear and happy and more confident to live the life I prefer. It doesn’t mean that life is suddenly free of it's problems and sorrows, but perhaps just that I am more prepared to deal with them; from a calmer more confident space. I am in awe of the peacefulness and happiness that I feel inside.
